N/A Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum is situated in the Sainte Marguerite Island fortress. To get there, you take a short boat ride. The ground floor houses state prisons and the cell where the mysterious man in the iron mask was held prisoner for eleven years. Inside, you can see beautiful Arabic and Roman ceramics, and many items collected from the bottom of the ocean. From the fortress, there’s a beautiful view over the entire city.
N/A Palais des Festivals
Cannes is most famous for its film festival, founded in 1939 and one of the world's oldest, most influential and prestigious cinematic events. It’s held annually in the month of May at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. The first palace to host the Cannes Film Festival was constructed by 1949. The original building was located on the Promenade de la Croisette, on the present site of the Hotel Noga Hilton. In response to the growing success of the festival, the City of Cannes decided to build a new Palais in 1979. Today, the Palais des Festivals has an overall capacity of 25,000 square metres for exhibitions, fairs and other events. Every year, the festival draws thousands of film lovers who want to see their favourite stars on the famous red carpet in front of the palace.
